Multi-skilled Maintenance Engineer

About the role

Our client, a leading FMCG manufacturer with a modern production site in Runcorn, is recruiting a Multi-skilled Maintenance Engineer (electrical bias) to join their engineering team on a continental shift pattern. The site runs high-speed filling and packaging lines, and the engineering team's job is simple to say and hard to do: keep them running, and make them run better. This is a site that invests — recent line upgrades, a proper planned-maintenance system and a genuine training budget (PLC courses, 18th Edition, IOSH). Breakdown response is the sharp end of the role, but the culture is fix-it-forever, not patch-it-again: root-cause work is expected and given time.

What you'll be doing

• Respond to breakdowns across filling, packaging and process plant, restoring production safely and quickly
• Diagnose faults across electrical systems, PLCs, drives, sensors, pneumatics and mechanical transmissions
• Deliver the planned preventative maintenance schedule to plan
• Carry out root-cause analysis on repeat failures and implement permanent fixes
• Support installation, commissioning and improvement projects on new and existing plant
• Update the CMMS with accurate job records, parts usage and history
• Work to site safety systems: permits to work, isolation/LOTO and risk assessments
• Share knowledge and support the development of apprentices on shift

What we're looking for

• Apprentice-trained or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in electrical or mechanical engineering
• Genuine multi-skilled ability with an electrical bias
• Fault-finding experience in FMCG, food, packaging or similar high-speed manufacturing
• PLC fault-finding exposure — Siemens or Allen-Bradley (able to go online and interrogate)
• Comfortable on a continental days/nights rotation
• 17th/18th Edition wiring regulations (desirable)
• Experience with servo drives, inverters or vision systems (desirable)
